The Falkland Suspension Lamp was created by Bruno Munari for Danese Milano in 1964, and is composed of a single light bulb and aluminium reflector which illuminate the curves of the fabric, held in shape by the weight of its varying metal rings. Its distinctive shade was created using an elastic, tubular piece of fabric produced in a tights and socks factory, typifying Munari's genial approach to the realisation of his designs.

Bruno Munari was a prolific Italian artist, designer and inventor associated with the Futurist, Modernist and Concrete Art movements – and best known for his experimental children's books, foam toys, futuristic light fittings and cube-shaped ashtrays. The idea of play as an essential component to creativity informs much of his work.
