Falkland 165 Suspension Lamp by Bruno Munari
Falkland suspension is a lamp with a spontaneous shape that is achieved by the contrasting forces of its components: the tension of a stretched tube of finely woven fabric and the weight of seven different-sized metal rings. A single light bulb and aluminium reflector illuminate the curves of the fabric.
The lamp was created by Bruno Munari for Danese Milano in 1964. The Falkland shade has been realised by using a tubular elastic piece of fabric produced in a tights and socks factory. The tubular elastic material is given shape by the metal rings of different diameters in the hollow space within it.
The creation of this object is a symptom of the geniality of Munari in managing projects: involving a socks and tights manufacturing company in the realisation of one of the most popular Italian design light shades.
