In Cheating Time: Bruno Munari the Archaeologist, the reader will find objects from the 3rd millennium B.C. alongside the Fossils of 2000. As Alberto Munari explains in an unpublished text at the beginning of the book, a visit to an archaeological site was the beginning of a game between father and son as well as an original research inquiry that shows how one can play with history using its own tools of analysis. Munari's theoretical reconstructions of imaginary objects recognizes in every day objects a trace of a single and imaginary history, rather than History.
Munari is our Italian godfather number two – the first being Enzo Mari. We’re constantly inspired by Munari’s work; it used to be that if we hit a wall, we’d refer to his books. His view of the role and process of design remains at the forefront of today’s design context. He has a playful and intuitive set of values around design and education – one that has nurtured HATO for over a decade. As students it was always hard to source his projects and books, so we’re so happy to sell them here now.
